São Tomé Chocolate
Democratic Republic of São Tomé and Príncipe was discovered in 1470 by Portuguese navigators, João de Santarém and Pedro Escobar. It was a Portuguese colony until July 12, 1975, when the islands gained their independence. Cocoa is another of the points that unites these two peoples, since it was Portugal that introduced these plantations to the islands. São Tomé ended up being known as the “Cocoa Island”.
