Description
Region: Douro
Denomination: DOC Douro
The Wine: With bright and attractive colors, Papa Figos is one of the rarest birds in the Douro. The unique and rare character of this bird is the perfect inspiration for this magnificent red wine from Casa Ferreirinha. Papa Figos is an elegant and vibrant wine, classic but modern, which reflects the values of Casa Ferreirinha, the house with the longest tradition in the production of quality Douro wines and one of the biggest references in this region in the world.
Viticultural Year: Dry and cold winter. In spring, except for the month of April, precipitation values were below the climatological normal and temperatures were mild, which allowed for budbreak in good conditions. In summer, temperatures were mild, without major heat peaks, with some episodes of precipitation, which favored a long and balanced maturation end, allowing the production of high quality wines.
Grape varieties: 30% Tinta Roriz, 30% Tinta Barroca, 25% Touriga Franca, 15% Touriga Nacional
Vinification: Grapes from the Douro Superior sub-region, namely from Quinta da Leda and from winegrowers who have vineyards, preferably with exposure to the north and at a higher altitude. After destemming and gentle crushing, the grapes are sent to stainless steel vats, where alcoholic fermentation takes place. During this phase, soft macerations are carried out at a controlled temperature.
Winemaker: Luis Sottomayor
Tasting Notes: Deep ruby color. Intense aroma, with a lot of fruit - lively red fruits, black fruits and stone fruits, highlighting the ripe apricot -, enriched with the presence of balsamic aromas, resin and cedar. In the mouth, it is a wine with good volume, lively acidity and round tannins, with the black fruit standing out. The finish is elegant and harmonious.
